I love to drop this jam right after the last call announcement. But that’s really all you need when I drop this song late at night. I rarely play more than the hook before I quick mix out. Lil’ Troy – “Wanna Be A Baller” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 The opening drums are instantly recognizable and the hook is a huge sing-a-long. For a clean version, find the radio version and not the terrible edit version that Spotify has.īell Biv Devoe – “Poison” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 I’m a West Coast guy, and while “Gin & Juice” also works, this one gets a better reaction because of the intro. Snoop Dogg – Who Am I (What’s My Name)?” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 Ol’ Dirty Bastard – “Got Your Money” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3Īnother one of those songs with an infectious sing-a-long hook (by Kelis!) that everyone from the late 90s era remembers. When I play “The Humpty Dance”, I usually play that mashup/blend, whatever you want to call it. Once upon a time, there was a Discotech mashup that included a verse from Jay-Z’s “PSA” over the Humpty Dance, samples from Fergie’s “My Hump” embedded throughout – it was straight fire. Salt-N-Pepa – “Shoop” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3ĭigital Underground – “The Humpty Dance” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 I’m not one of those DJs who nerds out over music facts and history – I just rock parties. I totally forgot this was released in 1999, as it came off an album called “2001”. Dre & Snoop Dogg – “The Next Episode” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 When I started to listen to hip-hop in my late teens, this was one of the first hip-hop songs I loved. Growing up, I was mainly raised on country music. Outkast – “Rosa Parks” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 REGULATORS! MOUNT UP! Not only a great song for soundcheck, it still crushes dance floors when played at exactly the right time. Warren G & Nate Dogg – “Regulate” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 This song got my era in a lot of trouble with junior and high school administrators, too. This is THE hip-hop song that got my era in a lot of trouble at school dances. Juvenile – “Back That Thang Up” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3īefore there was twerking, there was grind dancing. This Mariah Carey song validates that rule. Mariah Carey – “Fantasy (Bad Boy Remix)” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 The #1 of DJing: Play for the ladies and the guys will follow. Speaking of early 90s hip-hop song that work for my late 20s and early 30s clients… And like “Hypnotize” this song is recognizable from the beginning and always sets the party off at a wedding reception. But the album it was on was released at the end of 1999, so I’m counting it. Technically, this song was released as a single in 2000. All five will work, but there is something about the opening drums from “Hypnotize” that rocks the hardest.ĭMX – “Party Up (Up In Here)” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 – “Hypnotize” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3īiggie Smalls released five singles in a row that were bangers: “Juicy”, “Big Poppa”, “One More Chance”, “Mo Money, Mo Problems”, and of course, “Hypnotize”. Mark Morrison – “Return of the Mack” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3Īnother party rocker from the 90s that everyone instantly knows. I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again: “If a day comes when this song doesn’t work, I will retire from DJing the very next day.” ![]() Montell Jordan – “This Is How We Do It” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 A party staple that brings every dude to the dance floor. The second the horn hits, you know what’s coming next. House of Pain – “Jump Around” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 The whole “Big Willie Style” album still holds up. Massive, massive, MASSIVE song from Will Smith. Will Smith – “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 MC Hammer – “U Can’t Touch This” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3Įvery kid growing up in the 90s had a pair of hammer pants and could do the Hammer Shuffle. Do you know all the words to this classic party rocker? Vanilla Ice – “Ice, Ice Baby” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 Obvious, but it is without a doubt, the biggest smash hit of 90s Hip-Hop. Sir Mix-A-Lot – “Baby Got Back” PURCHASE: Amazon MP3 ![]() The 90s Hip-Hop & R&B Songs That Still Crush Weddings Playlist, Volume One Enjoy my selections, and as always, the full Spotify playlist is available at the end!
